Power Optimiser by Solar Edge

Solar Edge is one of the leading companies in renewable energy solutions. They were founded in 2006 and have dedicated their time to providing innovative and industry-changing technologies to the market. They strive to do this by providing products that increase the energy output through the module level Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT). Their products are available for both commercial and domestic locations.

What is MPPT?

Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) allows each module to be tracked as well as flexible design installation with various tilts, orientations and module types in the same string. Solar Edge Inverters and power optimisers automatically maintain a fixed string voltage which allows the installers flexibility with various string lengths to help design the ideal PV system

Power Optimiser Information

Solar Edge’s Power Optimiser is a device used to maximise the amount of energy extracted from a solar photovoltaic or wind turbine system, making the whole system more efficient. The Power Optimiser is a DC/DC converter, connected to each PV module or embedded by the module manufacturers to replace the more traditional solar junction box.

The Power Optimiser increases the energy output from a PV system through constant tracking using MPPT. This product will then monitor the performance of each module and transfer its data to a cloud-based platform. All power optimisers feature a unique SafeDC ™ which will automatically shut down the modules DC voltage if the inverter or grid power shuts down. Solar Edge power optimisers are compatible with c-Si and thin-film modules with a 25-year warranty.

Power Optimiser Key Features

  • Module Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT)

The Advantages of Using Solar Edge Products

Solar Edge is one of the top suppliers of parts and products for PV systems throughout the world. They are also believed to be the second best inverter manufacturer on the globe. This sort of information shows that Solar Edge are a company that can be trusted. We have worked first-hand doing solar panel installation with their products and can vouch for their reliability and quality.

Advanced Efficiency

Their products can output an impressive amount of energy that can go unaffected by even the most overcast of days. This is achieved because each individual panel outputs power separately. If one or more panels are covered by shade, the whole system will still work at near maximum output.

Innovative Home Technology

Solar Edge has launched a technology in Australia that will let you run your energy appliances even when not at the property at which the appliance is secured. Using a mobile app you can turn on air conditioning, programme hot water systems and under-floor heating. This turns your system into a completely energy efficient household. While this service is not yet available in the United Kingdom, it is a sign of things to come.

Developing Flexibility

Solar Edge gives homeowners flexibility that allows you to place panels across multiple roofs. This can be done from different angles and directions which are all attached to the same string. The system allows for up to 45 panels on one string. As a result of this, costs will be heavily reduced due to the saving on installation. This is perfect for our installations at Solar Panels Scotland.

Points of Failure

If there is ever the uncommon event of something failing with one of your Solar Edge panels the rest of your system will remain unaffected and should continue to be fully operational. This means that during any service or warranty checks you will avoid too much system downtime and allow you to continue to generate power.
